Microgaming Online Casinos - Anti Online Casino Bill Excludes Horse Betting
The United States House of Representatives passed the Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act July 11 by a vote of 317-93 in which online casino sites bore the full brunt. However, while the online casino industry was trying to make sense of the law, the horse betting industry breathed a sigh of relief. The House defeated an amendment to the anti online casino bill that would have extended the proposed ban on internet gambling to horse racing and state lotteries by apparently overriding current federal law.
The legislation that was passed updates the Wire Act of 1961 and will try to stop online casino gambling by outlawing use of credit cards and bank transfers to make bets. If the bill manages to reach the final stage, criminal penalties would be in store for those that transgressed this bill. The anti-online casino bill’s primary target is offshore online casinos that accept bets from U.S. residents.
The horse betting industry discovered that the bill which could have also included online casino horse betting was sidelined. There were too many potential loopholes and disagreements surrounding this law and the US Department of Justice was not totally at ease with its ramifications.
